It seems that $90,335 will not buy you much anymore, at least in Pennsylvania. What it will buy is someone who talks a lot but fails to get anything done, also known as a Pennsylvania State Legislator. That ninety grand figure is what we pay these birds per year, in addition to 57.5 cents per mile traveled and $178 a day in per diem when they are in session. All of that makes Pennsylvania Lawmakers the third-highest paid legislature in the nation, and that does not include the expense of hundreds of staff members. There are a total of 203 members of the PA House and 50 Senators, making the PA General assembly the largest full-time legislature in the country. If you think all of this results in good government, think again. Taxpayers certainly do not get much “bang for the buck” here.
