Jan. 28—SPRINGFIELD — One of the state’s top public defenders is faulting Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and Police Commissioner Cheryl C. Clapprood for using the “bully pulpit to stoke fear.”
Randy Gioia, deputy chief counsel for the Committee for Public Counsel Services, reacted to comments made Wednesday by Sarno and Clapprood criticizing a Springfield District Court judge’s decision to release a firearms suspect from custody on the condition that he wear a GPS monitoring device.
