As per data available with industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicles sales in the domestic market declined 2.24% to 2,711,457 units last fiscal. Sales of commercial vehicles too fell by more than a fifth to 568,559 units in the period under consideration.

Sales of cars, utility vehicles and vans in the local market declined by around two per cent last fiscal with the covid-induced nationwide lockdown impacting adversely a sector, which has already been seeing a structural slowdown the past few years.

Sales of commercial vehicles too fell by more than a fifth to 568,559 units in the period under consideration. Meanwhile, two-wheeler sales crashed 13% to 15,119,387 units in FY21. And those of three-wheelers declined by 66% to 216,197 units in the same period.
