The veteran organizations of Lexington will host a parade on Saturday, March 27 at 4 p.m. in honor of Vietnam Veteran Remembrance Day. A hamburger feed will follow in the parking lot of the Orthman YMCA in Lexington. The parade route will travel north on Washington Street, ending at Lexington Middle School.
Members of American Legion Post 111 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5136 and the respective Auxiliary units chose to have the parade on Saturday, instead of the actual holiday March 29, in order to include more public involvement. This event will be a county wide recognition.
The United States sent more than 2.7 million servicemen and women to Vietnam, with a peak occupation of 543,000 in April of 1969; 58,318 lost their lives with over 300,000 wounded.
