Vigils to mark losses planned for Portland parks
The city is also offering $40,000 in grants for additional mourning and healing events.
A series of candlelight vigils to acknowledge the loss of life over the past year are planned in Portland parks from May 21 to May 30.
The Rose City Rising vigils are supported by Friends of Noise, a nonprofit organization that seeks to foster healing and growth for creative youth.
"We are inviting people to attend candlelight vigils in local parks with small (public address) systems for open mic remembrances and mutual aid tabling groups in order for attendees to find the support they need to start their own healing journeys," said Andre Middleton, the secretary and executive director of the organization, which is providing the PA systems.
