The number of major criminal and civil trials has dropped during the pandemic.
The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office announced the conviction of two teenagers on weapons charges in early December. Both were charged in connection with a May 2019 shooting that sent bullets into homes, businesses and vehicles. Both defendants were convicted of unlawful use of a firearm, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Although the number of shootings in Portland is on track to double this year, the DA's office said this was only the third felony trial to be held in the county since March — and the only one involving a shooting.
