Overcoming adversity
CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- SIU sophomore basketball player Sekou Dembele scored 6 points in a loss to Evansville on Monday. Six points doesn't seem like a big deal but when you realize it's his first conference game in a year, following a gruesome injury, it puts things into perspective.
Dembele gave SIU some productive minutes in the second matchup against Evansville. The sophomore forward has only played in 4 of the Salukis 8 games. And he was efficient in his 11 minutes on Monday, finishing with 6 points on 3 of 4 shooting.
At 6-7 230 pounds Dembele gives the Salukis another low post option.
"I thought Sekou gave us great minutes," SIU Men's Head Basketball Coach Bryan Mullins said. "He gave us great energy, was able to do some good things. He's still getting healthy, getting into shape but I think we are going to need him for the Valley season so I thought he affected the game positively and through that second half just trying to find some combinations, rotations where we could stream together a couple of stops."
