The fort, which is located near Panhala Fort, was built by
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during the 17th century AD. Upon its discovery, experts from the archaeology department immediately rushed to the spot and began its panchanama.
The team first found the cannonballs while digging pits to install the sign boards. They were stacked in rectangles, which is an indication that it was deployed for military readiness. About 407 cannonballs have been unearthed, most of them weighing seven kgs.
