When Port Huron resident Ren Senkmajer’s close friend caught COVID-19, it was like a wakeup call for the 21-year-old.
“This could happen to me or any of my friends,” they said. “It felt a lot closer to home.”
Senkmajer works at Raven Café and Moe’s Corner Deli in downtown and said being a server right now feels very one-sided. People don’t have to wear a mask when they're sitting down to eat at restaurants, but Senkmajer as a server must wear theirs.
But after getting their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at a clinic open to all Port Huron employees Wednesday, Senkmajer said they felt better equipped as a frontline worker and more secure going back on the clock.
