Georges River Council
Market gardeners, international students, restaurateurs, artists and opera singers were among those who have set their roots in the Georges River area since the 1870s and shaped the local Chinese community in Sydney’s south.
In a major exhibition by Georges River Council, Sydneysiders will soon be able to explore the changing face and history of Chinese migration.
Our Journeys I Our Stories tells a story of past and present Chinese settlers through the eyes of six internationally renowned Australian Chinese artists, Lindy Lee, Guan Wei, Cindy Yuen-Zhe Chen, Xiao Lu, Jason Phu and Guo Jian, unveiling new artworks based on their personal interpretations of historical documents and imagery selected from local Chinese history.
