Once there was a farmer whose grain was the finest in the land and commanded the highest prices in every market. The farmer was generous and gave away much of his crop each year to the less fortunate farmers around him. People questioned him, saying, “Why do you give your crop away, when you could make more money by selling it?” The farmer smiled, “I know that the wind blows pollen from other fields into my grain. When those fields are best quality, my grain is protected and we all benefit.”
The mythical farmer realized the health of his crops relied on the neighboring fields. That can be said of the United States in regard to our relations with low-income countries.
