The stage is set for the 93d Academy Awards. Delayed from their usual February deadline and having seen some major changes due to the ongoing pandemic, the Oscars 2021, however, maintain the distinction of being an in-person ceremony, unlike the virtually held BAFTAs, Emmys and Golden Globes and will broadcast from two places in Los Angeles - the Dolby Theatre and Union Station. For nominees unable to travel, hubs have been designated London and Paris to join the ceremony.
This year with an important qualification of theatrical release set aside, digital streaming giant Netflix scored the most number of nominations including 10 for David Flincher's film Mank. In the pandemic impaled Hollywood in 2020, the picks for nominations were slim given how theatres remained a no-go zone.
