The Indian American Chamber of Commerce in Orlando is partnering directly with aid agencies to provide help for hospitals in India.Anjali Vaya is one of the thousands of Indian Americans who live in Central Florida and said she is heartbroken over what is happening in her home country.India is dealing with large caseloads of COVID-19."They are seeing dead bodies in the hundreds that are just being burnt. The numbers are increasing," Vaya said.On Wednesday, India set a world record for the number of cases in one day with over 360,000.Vaya's uncle, cousin and her cousin's wife have all died from the virus. Her cousin had three young children who are now without their parents. "I'm devastated," Vaya said.Vaya said vaccines became political and, at the same time, life went back to pre-pandemic life with people starting to go back to cricket games and attend weddings and massive religious events, where millions of people didn't wear masks.India's healthcare system is crushed and hospital beds are just about non-existent. Oxygen is desperately needed in the country. Vaya is with the Indian American Chamber of Commerce.They are just one of at least a dozen organizations raising money to buy supplies and ship them to India. So far, they have raised close to $6 million."The entire country is suffering and it is a heartfelt request to everyone to jump in and do everything you can," Vaya said.Many countries have stepped in to help, including the United States, Russia and China.
