We'll update this story with the latest news about coronavirus and its effects in Oregon on Wednesday, August 4.
Oregon reports 422 COVID-19 hospitalizations
A fourth wave of COVID-19 cases, driven by the more contagious delta variant, is straining Oregon’s health care system.
The Oregon Health Authority reported 422 patients were hospitalized with COVID statewide Wednesday. That’s 43 more than Tuesday and the highest number since Jan. 13, when 434 hospitalizations were reported.
Of those hospitalized, 133 are in intensive care.
Gov. Kate Brown previously had increased business and social restrictions meant to stop the virus’ spread when hospitalizations hit 300. But now she is leaving it to counties to make that call.
