Orchestre symphonique de Montréal names Rafael Payare as new musical director

It’s hard tell who is more excited, Rafael Payare or the musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
The OSM announced Thursday that Payare has been named as its ninth music director, taking over from Kent Nagano, who held the post from 2006 to 2020.

The Venezuelan-born conductor’s tenure will officially begin with the 2022-23 season, for a minimum of five years, but he assumes the role of music director designate on Sept. 1.
