Opinion: Today's local Black leaders stand on the shoulders of giants they may not know

Chattanoogans saluting Black History Month likely know the accomplishments of James Mapp, whose 1960 lawsuit sped the integration of local schools, John Franklin, who was elected in 1971 as the city's first Black commissioner, and the Rev. Paul McDaniel, whose 1977 actions led to a change in Hamilton County government.
