Opinion/Cane: Barbarism begins at home

Disturbing images of the breach at our nation's Capitol are forever seared in my memory.
Those debauched scenes of senseless violence were incomprehensible and yet completely predictable. The absurdity of men wearing antlers, dressed in scraps of fur, wielding ax handles would have been laughable — like King Richard's Faire: Insurrection Edition, or "Night at the Museum," only for grown-ups and grievously unfunny — if the venue had been a frat house, not the seat of Western democracy. Like many, I literally could not believe my eyes.
