OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — One officer is hospitalized after being hit by a car while responding to a crash, reports the Omaha Police Department (OPD).
Around 6:15 Thursday evening, officers responded to an accident on Hwy 75 NB at the I-80 interchange.
Assisting with lane closures, Officer Michael Salseda parked his cruiser in a lane with emergency overhead lights and the directional bar activated.
Dressed in a high visibility traffic vest, Ofc. Salseda left his cruiser and began putting out flares along the highway shoulder. Suddenly, he was struck by a vehicle.
According to the OPD investigation, the car that hit Ofc. Salseda was driving northbound in the same lane the officer’s cruiser was parked and was unable to stop.
