“It’s a really amazing opportunity to meet people that have orchestral experience and also meet other people my age that are interested in similar things to me,” Herrick said.
“I’m sure I’ll learn heaps about orchestral music ... I’m looking forward to seeing what it offers.”
She is the only Southlander selected for the 2021 orchestra. All of its members will meet in Christchurch in April for a week of rehearsals and two public concerts.
Herrick’s mother, Jill Spencer, will accompany her to Christchurch and friends of the musician, living in the city, will be in the audience.
