One person was arrested after several demonstrators started speaking over city council members Monday night while the council was discussing consent agenda items.
Mayor Cownie addressed the chamber before the start of the meeting, citing city code section 2-70, which defines a code of conduct members of the public must follow at public meetings. Cownie also warned that those who might disrupt the meeting could be cited for "disorderly conduct, trespass or interfering with the good order of the meeting."
The council moved to approve the consent agenda without removing item 40, which was when several residents in the chamber erupted in shouts of disapproval. When their chants continued, Cownie asked the group, who had begun to stand on their chairs, to leave the meeting and they were escorted out by police officers.
