If you've ever driven south from the Mason-Dixon Line along the Delmarva Peninsula, you've probably driven over the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. As the name suggests, this waterway connects the Chesapeake and Delaware bays. On Oct. 17, 1829, it first opened for commercial use.
