SARTELL — Pedestrians and bicyclists will return to Sartell's original river crossing in 2022, when the city plans to reopen a long-closed bridge and connect it to a new trail on the west side of the Mississippi River.
The $12 million project is part of the city's focus on improving amenities around the Mississippi, said Mayor Ryan Fitzthum.
"As we look at the river road project that's going to happen jointly with Stearns County in 2022," Fitzthum said, "here is an opportunity for us to reimagine how that bridge might be used."
The bridge was the city's main crossing over the Mississippi River before the new Sartell Bridge was opened in the 1980s. The steel truss bridge has been closed ever since.
