A controversial ordinance to allow property rezoning for more single-family homes and condominiums along 111 acres of Old Russellville Pike gained first reading approval Thursday night from the Clarksville City Council.
With newly-sworn-in members casting first-ever votes in Council Chambers, the first-reading vote was 11-2 in favor of rezoning.
Wanda Allen and Karen Reynolds, both new to the council, voted against the ordinance.
Mayor Joe Pitts and council members Richard Garrett, Vondell Richmond, DaJuan Little, Wallace Redd, Jason Knight, Wanda Smith, Travis Holleman, Stacey Streetman, Ashlee Evans and Trisha Butler voted for the ordinance.
The measure is scheduled for a vote on second and final reading in February.
