An Ohio man on vacation in California died after experiencing a medical event while diving in Lake Tahoe on Saturday, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and his family. Jack Bowling, 40, died just off Baldwin Beach in South Lake Tahoe following a scuba diving accident, his family told WLWT. Bowling, who was from Fairfield, was on vacation with his wife and son.The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said it was called to help with a possible drowning around 12:14 p.m. The sheriff's office said the victim was metal detecting while using a weight belt under about 10 feet of water and experienced "some sort of distress." Other people pulled the person out of the water and fire and medical officials attempted CPR. The victim was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. "The family is devastated with this tragic and unexpected death of the most adored husband, daddy, son, brother (and) uncle," a statement from Bowling's wife, Monica Bowling, said in part. "Please keep the family in (your) prayers and thoughts."A preliminary autopsy lists his cause of death as drowning, WLWT reported. Bowling had served in the Army and worked in the technology department at the Butler County Educational Service Center.Family members said he was an experienced diver.--WLWT contributed to this story.
