Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for three
people who hijacked and shot a police officer near Bushbuckridge.
The incident took place at Casteel in Acornhoek on
Tuesday.
The officer – a constable stationed at the
Bushbuckridge police station – was off duty at the time of the shooting, said
police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.
Hlathi said:
The victim…was on his way home to prepare for his nightshift duties when a white Toyota Tazz, without a registration number, abruptly stopped in front of him. Suddenly, three suspects armed with a firearm got out of their car and went straight to him. They pointed the firearm [at him], dragged him out of his car and shot him in his lower body before putting him inside the boot of his car.
