Oceanside celebrated one of the biggest election turnouts in the city’s history by swearing in a mayor and two council members, declaring the passage of two ballot measures and the defeat of a third at a special meeting Tuesday.
Mayor Esther Sanchez, a City Council member for 20 years, is the city’s first female mayor and first Latina mayor. She smiled broadly as she stood in the Oceanside council chambers and repeated the oath of office administered by Rep. Mike Levin, a Democrat from San Juan Capistrano, who participated through a Zoom meeting from his office in Washington, D.C.
