OCEAN TOWNSHIP - While the town awaits permission from the Division of Fish and Wildlife for a deer hunt to cull ever-growing herds, some residents are organizing to stop it.
"We've taken away their habitat and the answer is killing them? There are other solutions," said Jacqui Wenzel of Deal Road, who'd rather see the deer herds trimmed by non-lethal means, if at all.
Two years ago the town's voters supported the adoption of a deer management plan that would use non-lethal means to remove or, at the very least, keep the deer population at bay. Non-lethal methods include relocating the deer or sterilizing the animals.
