Seán Ó Súilleabháin, who has died at the age of 83, was a passionate hillwalker, author of classic walk guides and founder of the Kerry Way. An early environmentalist and community activist, he was also the first chair of the Federation of Mountaineering Clubs of Ireland (FMCI) — now Mountaineering Ireland — and nurtured a widespread interest in the south-west landscape among the young and ever young.
