Charlie Hurley, the Irish football legend who died aged 87 last Thursday, was born in Devonshire Street West in what is called the Middle Parish in Cork city on October 4, 1936, but he was only seven months old when the family moved to Rainham in Essex. His father, however, never forgot his Cork roots, a Rebel pride he passed on to his son.
