When London Gonzales’ family went about planning the young Portlander’s 4th birthday, they never imagined they’d be able to strap on skates at Oaks Park Roller Skating Rink in Southeast Portland. But after Gov. Kate Brown recently modified coronavirus risk for several counties, including Multnomah, the change allowed for the rink’s reopening this week.
The rink, which has been around for 115 years and lays claims to being the largest roller rink west of the Mississippi, has been closed since March, 2020, save for a brief reopening in November. Up to 50 people are now allowed inside during public skate hours.
