Oakland officials are investigating a party last weekend at the Humanist Hall, an events space that hosted large gatherings in defiance of public health orders for much of the pandemic and was ordered to shut down.
Officials persuaded a judge in November to require the event space at 411 28th St. to close down. The manager of the space, David Oertel, was due in court Dec. 15 over the conflict, but at the hearing, officials learned that Oertel had died Dec. 5.
