Former foreign affairs boss Peter Varghese has warned that China could further tighten the screws on international student numbers, saying universities should not be complacent about reports local Chinese authorities were encouraging agents not to promote Australia as a study option.
Mr Varghese, now the current chancellor of the University of Queensland, said it was âquite likelyâ that local Chinese authorities had spoken to some recruitment agents about not encouraging students to study at Australian universities.
