The President is marshalling his political resources for a third term in office, starting with a battle for factional supremacy within the ruling party, President Filipe Nyusi hopes to yoke the ruling Frente de Libertação de Moçambique to his bid to change the constitution so he can have a third term of office. He and his allies publicly deny any such plan although insiders say he was clearly striving for it in the lead-up to Frelimo's congress, held from 23 to 27 September.
