NTC Legal Officer Deo Virgil Tan, in a press conference Tuesday afternoon here, said the facilitated SIM registration will be held in the municipality of San Remigio on Feb. 15; Valderrama, Feb. 16; and Barbaza, Feb.17. "The facilitated SIM registration is being conducted in the priority areas where the signal is erratic and the cellular sites are limited," Tan said. Through the facilitated registration, he said they can guide the public on how to register their SIM cards. The government agency together with various telecommunication firms first conducted the registration in the municipality of Pandan on Feb. 10 that served 1,442 SIM card holders. Of the 1,442 registered SIMs, 1,010 were Smart Subscribers and 412 were Globe subscribers. "Those newly purchased SIM cards need also to be registered," Tan said. He said those who lost their SIM after the registration should inform the telecommunications companies for it to be canceled and avoid the possibility of being used in the commission of crimes. Those who will avail of the facilitated SIM registration are advised to bring their identification cards, otherwise they can also present their clearances from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) or the Philippine National Police. NTC Western Visayas Regional Director Leah Dela Cruz-Doromal, in a separate interview, said senior citizens, persons with disability (PWD) and heavily pregnant women will be assisted by their personnel and the telco personnel when they come for the SIM registration on Feb. 15. "We will be saturating the remote areas of Antique with the facilitated SIM registration until April 26," Doromal said. The SIM registration will end on April 26, 2023. (PNA) }
