Figures for June 7 showed a jump of 50 positive cases in a day, with another 32 the following day, with four people admitted to hospital in the last seven days.
Health officials have revealed that the Delta variant – previously known as the Indian variant – is the most common one circulating, and urged people to follow the ‘Hands, Face, Space, Fresh Air’ guidance.
Liz Morgan, Director of Public Health at Northumberland County Council, said: "We have seen an increase in Covid cases in Northumberland and, like in many other areas, it looks as if the Delta variant is the most common one circulating now.
