A police dog shot in the jaw in Northland has undergone surgery and is in a stable condition.
The police dog that was shot in the jaw in Northland has been allowed to go home to continue his recovery.
The dog had “critical” injuries after being shot by a man in the small town of Tangowahine in Northland on December 1.
The man was also shot three times by police and was rushed to hospital – he is facing multiple charges.

The police dog is now back home with his handler and family.
The police dog was airlifted to the Veterinary Specialist Group clinic, on Auckland’s Unitec campus in Mt Albert, where he was under the care of Dr Alastair Coomer.
