Northeastern Syria: Hospitals run out of funds and supplies as second COVID-19 wave hits region
Format
One year after the first recorded case of coronavirus in the region, a second wave of COVID-19 is spreading quickly across Northeastern Syria. As of 26 April, there are over 15,000 confirmed cases---including approximately 960 health workers---and 640 deaths, the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said today. However, the true number of people affected by COVID-19 is believed to be much higher as people continue to struggle to access testing and health care. The response remains drastically underfunded and plans for vaccinating frontline health workers and the population remain vague.
