Minnesota is gearing up to fight new effort to legalize doctor-assisted suicide.
State law currently prohibits assisted suicide, but a bill based on an Oregon law that Paul Stark of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life says has proven to have serious shortfalls has been introduced to the Minnesota Senate.
"After the lethal drug has been dispensed, there are no safeguards to guard against pressure or coercion or abuse, and insurers can have a financial incentive to steer people toward assisted suicide when that's an option, which is less expensive, rather than more expensive life-extending care," Stark cites.
