Food banks should be prioritized when federal coronavirus relief funds are spent in Louisiana, according to a new collaborative among nonprofits.
A group of nonprofits has come together to convince state lawmakers to prioritize people over business when it comes to how billions in federal COVID-19 pandemic relief dollars are spent. The Louisiana Equitable Recovery Collaborative lists housing, food, childcare and education as the most pressing needs.
Organizations in the group include HousingNOLA, the Center for Planning Excellence, the Louisiana Budget Project, the Power Coalition and Feeding Louisiana. They coalesced after the Louisiana House of Representatives approved a version of the 2021-22 state budget with a 99-0 vote. They said it fails to address long-standing inequities that have been exacerbated in the pandemic. Sign up for our Newsletters
