NOAA Science Behind Marking the New U.S. Center of Population

The Census Bureau recently announced the 2020 U.S. Center of Population, which they describe as a point where an imaginary, flat, weightless and rigid map of the United States would balance perfectly if everyone were of identical weight. In 2020 the location was Hartville, Missouri, a town of less than 600 people.
