More than three weeks after the
death of Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL20)and Democrats are calling on Gov. Ron DeSantis to announce a date for a special election to fill the seat.
“Our governor needs to call the special election,” Congresswoman Lois Frankel (D-West Palm Beach) told CBS12 News. “Gov. DeSantis, stop playing politics. Set this election.”
Democrats have accused the governor of holding off on calling a special election in order to deprive Democrats in Congress an extra vote in the House.
Florida law requires that DeSantis call a special election to fill the vacant congressional seat, but does not specify a deadline.
