The American Petroleum Institute, an advocacy agency based in Washington, D.C., organized a media conference Wednesday to allay consumers' fears and inform the public that there is no shortage of gasoline.

âOur industry is closely monitoring the situation,â Frank Macchiarola, API senior vice president of policy, economics and regulatory affairs, said. âWe are seeing a spike in demand for petroleum due to hoarding of petroleum. We encourage consumers not to hoard petroleum. Everyone has a role to play in this situation.â
Macchiarola said the pipeline is expected to be running again this weekend.
