Nicholas Afton Youngbird, 30, is accused of holding a knife and taking a step toward a Minot police officer who had responded to a domestic incident and later of spitting at a second Minot police officer after he was placed under arrest on Saturday.
He is charged with Class C felony simple assault on a police officer and Class A misdemeanor menacing in district court in Ward County.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, police had originally been called due to a possible assault in an alleyway. The officer spoke with a reporting party who said Youngbird had grabbed a knife. The officer then called to Youngbird, who allegedly came out of a back room into the kitchen carrying a knife with a 6-inch blade and took a step toward the officer. The officer told Youngbird to drop the knife, which Youngbird did. Youngbird was arrested, placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. and was agitated and kicking the back seat. He then allegedly spit at another officer, who had been explaining why he was under arrest, through the open window of the patrol car.
