The venerable, all-male Highland Glee Club has entered a new era - appointing the first female music director in its 112-year history.
Resident Sarah Telford, who sang with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops, studied conducting at the Boston University School of Music and worked as the assistant conductor of the Arlington-Belmont Chorale, according to a press release.
She is embracing her new role with the club, which formed in Newton Highlands in 1908. Although the group has not held any virtual performances, Telford said she hopes it will perform outside in the summer and discussed her vision for the future.
