The main reaction from local business leaders to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s snap lockdown was one of “surprise”, says Touchpoint Group chief executive Frank van der Velden, whose technology company is based in Auckland.
“Nobody was expecting it. I looked at my phone at five to 9pm last night, and it said there was an announcement by the PM at 9pm. And I thought, oh my gosh, that sounds ominous,” Mr van der Velden said.
The general sentiment in New Zealand is accepting of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s decision.
