New York State Police are conducting what they only describe as a criminal investigation at a location on Elmira's Southside.
State police and Elmira police have been at a multi-unit dwelling at 427-429 Partridge St. since Wednesday afternoon.
Police are also at 319 West Ave., about a block and a half from the Partridge Street location.
Trooper Mark O'Donnell, public information officer for state police Troop E, would only say the circumstances are "serious" and that there would be a police presence in that neighborhood for an extended period.
O'Donnell wouldn't say how long the investigation would take, other than to say until they were finished.
