NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -The New Orleans Fire Dept. quickly extinguished an early morning 2-alarm fire at an abandoned building Sunday.
The fire stared around 5:40 a.m. at the corner of Gravier and S. Tonti Streets.
The first NOFD unit arrived on the scene at 5:48 a.m., finding a two-story abandoned building with flames coming through the roof.
A second alarm was struck immediately at 5:49 a.m.
The dilapidated condition of the structure and likelihood of collapse prevented firefighters from making any kind of interior attack on the fire. Although there were no utilities servicing the structure, Entergy was called to de-energize powerlines so that firefighters could safely raise aerial apparatuses.
