New Lehigh University president is himself a Mountain Hawk

A Lehigh University alumnus and the current provost of Darmouth College has been named as Lehigh’s fifteenth president.
Joseph J. Helbe will succeed John D. Simon as president of the South Bethlehem university starting Aug. 16, Lehigh’s Board of Trustees announced Monday.
Helbe graduated from Lehigh in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He was selected after a global search process that bean last fall, when Simon announced he would step down June 30. Lehigh’s Nathan Urban, who is provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, will serve as interim president.
