New Jasper Co. sheriff: Office making 'good strides,' dealing with pandemic

A little over a month into his tenure as Jasper County sheriff, Donald Hipp said he is taking his new job day by day and working to overcome challenges including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Hipp defeated incumbent Chris Malphrus in the Democratic primary last year and then beat write-in candidate Gary Morris in the general election.
"I was already familiar with some aspects of the job coming from the solicitor's office as an investigator, but it is a learning process,” Hipp said. “I am pleased to say we are making some good strides, but I want to be better than good. I want to be great."
