New ICMR tech ensures Covid test result in one hour

RT-Lamp technology is cost-effective as the test costs less than Rs 200.
The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has come out with a new technique for quick detection of Covid-19. Developed by Dr Shyam Sundar Nandi, an assistant director in the ICMR, and his team, the technique called
RT Lamp technology takes just one hour against four hours taken by the commonly used RT-PCR method.
The RT-Lamp technology is cost-effective as the test does not cost more than Rs 200.
The ICMR has called for expression of interest from manufacturers for commercialisation of the technique so that this technology can come up rapidly for national testing.
